Import rules at a glance
- Private cars must be of the current or previous model year – in practice new cars.
- Since late 2024 private importers may import one vehicle every 5 years, paid via an Egyptian bank.
- Vehicles made in the EU pay 0 % duty – with proof of origin (EUR.1 or origin declaration). VAT and development levy still apply.
- No loading without an ACID number (advance registration via Nafeza).
Documents we need
- Registration certificate Part I and II (originals)
- Vehicle deregistered or with export plates
- Purchase contract or invoice with VIN, make, model, year, engine size and fuel type
- Copy of the shipper’s ID card or passport; for companies the EORI number
- Name and address of the consignee in the destination country
- ACID number of the consignee; shipper registered with CargoX
- Proof of origin EUR.1 or origin declaration for zero duty
We check before booking whether any further documents are needed.
Good to know
The ACID number must appear on all documents, including the bill of lading – we agree this with the consignee before booking.
